Canadians worried about retirement: poll

Are you worried about retirement? If so, you’re not alone.

According to a new poll, more than half of Canadians over 45 are concerned over the slow economy and shaky stock markets, and its impact on their retirement savings.

The poll, conducted by Sun Life Financial and the CARP seniors group, suggested 54% of 5,500 CARP members who were surveyed are troubled over the impacts of the rocky economy and recent stock market woes.

The poll suggested a third of those surveyed are fearful of losing money in their retirement savings because of the volatility in the stock market.

With recent news of the eurozone and International Monetary Fund’s massive cash injection of 100 billion Euros to the debt-burdened Greece, markets surged back for a day then later delivered a mixed performance.
